Florida runs on two seasons and two ports. Cars come south from October through December and go back north from March through May, and the lane that paid one way in the autumn is the one to book in reverse in the spring.
Jacksonville and Miami are the other half: imported vehicles off the ships and dealer stock moving inland. Port work pays, and it asks for paperwork and patience at the gate — which is what we price in before accepting it rather than after.
From June the forecast is part of dispatch. A named storm closes yards and ports for days and pushes everything booked behind it, so through the season we keep the week shorter and the backhaul closer to home.

A TWIC card opens the port gate
Picking up at a port terminal in Jacksonville or Miami needs a TWIC. We check the driver has one before booking port freight, because the gate will.
Agricultural inspection stations
Commercial vehicles entering Florida stop at the state inspection stations on the way in. It is minutes rather than hours, and it belongs in the plan rather than in the delay.
A declared storm changes the week
Between June and November a declared emergency closes ports and yards and changes what is moving on the road. We re-book around the declaration instead of waiting it out.
