Texas is where most of the trucks we dispatch start their week. Dallas–Fort Worth and Houston put two of the largest auction markets in the country a few hours apart, so a truck that empties in one can reload in the other the same day instead of deadheading home.
What we watch here is the spread between the metros and the long runs out of them. DFW to the Southeast and Houston west on I-10 pay differently week to week, and the crossings at Laredo and El Paso carry freight that never shows up in a national rate average.
Heat is the other half of it. July and August slow the yards down and put more trucks on the shoulder, so a Texas summer week is built from fewer, longer runs with the loading windows booked early in the day.

Lo que exige Texas
Permits before the ramp, not at it
Texas sets its own limits on height, width and length and permits anything over them per route, through TxDMV. A load that needs one is checked against it before we accept it.
Securement, at every inspection
Texas DPS runs a lot of roadside inspections, and on a car hauler they begin with chains, straps and the paperwork that goes with them. Our safety desk preps for that rather than reacting to it.
Border freight keeps its own clock
Loads out of Laredo and El Paso come with customs documents and real dwell at the crossing. We price the wait in rather than discover it on the rate confirmation.
